Camp 2008

Budokai conducted a camp for instructors and senior rank holders at the Madras Christian College Higher Secondary School, Chetpet, Chennai. The camp was held from May 23 to 25th. Mr. Karate R.Thiagarajan (Ex.Deputy Mayor) and currently the President of the All India Karate Federation inaugurated the Camp. Dr.Amar Agarwal & Mr.Sukumar Nambiar presided and encouraged the students and instructors to work hard and uphold the high standards set by Renshi. Dr.Radhakrishnan who had been closely associated with Renshi from their college days, spoke about how Renshi dreamt about building the Dojo 24 hours a day and his dedication to accomplish his goal. Mrs.Meena Sateesh, one of Budokai’s first lady students who along with Mr.Sateesh had a big role to play in the development of Budokai. Both of them had contributed so much in the administration of Budokai in the earlier days. She spoke about her experiences at Budokai. Old students and well wishers were present at the inaugural function.

The camp was attended by over a hundred instructors and senior students from the four southern states and also by members from the SAG (special action group commandos) from Delhi.

The camp was headed by Shiandai and assisted by Sensei Bruce, Sensei Manuel Thomas and Sensei Ranga Rao.

Mr.Shanmugarajeswaran IPS was the chief guest for the conclusion of the camp. He is a past student of Budokai and was a senior student during his active period. He shared his memories of training and instances at Budokai and then handed over the camp participation certificates to each of the participants.

Grading at Mandya

19 students were graded at the Mandya Dojo. Shiandai, Sensei Bruce, Sensei Ranga Rao, and (Mandya Dojo in charge) Sensei Kubernarayanan conducted the grading assisted by Sreenivasan from Coimbatore Dojo and Yohan John from Honbu Dojo.

Special Action Group

Camp and grading at Jodhpur for Gujarat Police - Chetak Commandos and 10th Para commandos between 14th May 2010 and 18th May 2010.
A four day camp followed by grading was conducted at Jodhpur, Rajasthan for the elite Chetak Commandos of the Gujarat Police and the 10th Para commandos of the army.
The first batch of the Chetak Commandos comprising of 23 handpicked personnel of the Gujarat Police underwent intensive training with Capt.Jabbar Singh under guidance from Major General Dalbir Singh AVSM, VRC, VSM at the Rajasthan Police training centre in Jodhpur.
Eight of the Chetak Commandos were awarded Yellow Belts, 16 were awarded Orange Belts and 2 were awarded Green II belts for their good performance.
The 10th Para Commandos consisting of 39 fresh recruits and 7 rank holders were trained by Nk Kundan Singh. Of the39 fresh recruits, 15 were awarded Yellow Belts and 24 were awarded Orange Belts. Jayachandran a senior student was awarded Shodan.

At the end of the training period a four day camp was conducted, headed by Shiandai Anand Mohan assisted by Sensei Bruce Robson and Sensei Ranga Rao.

CAMP 2010 AT YELAGIRI MAY 27th – 30th
The 3rd annual camp was held at Yelagiri Hills, a mini hill station about 250 km from Chennai. The theme for this camp was shiai kumite, shite katas, rules and regulations, judging and refereeing, terminology etc.
The camp was conducted at the Don Bosco camp site and attended by about 30 participants.
The camp was inaugurated on May 27th by Fr. Stalin administrator of Don Bosco Idayadeepam.The first session commenced at 10 a.m and continued upto lunch at 1 p.m. The second session commenced at 3.30 p.m. and concluded at 8 p.m. with a short break at 5 p.m. The second day onwards training started from 6.30 a.m. and maintained schedule. A power point presentation was made by Sensei Manuel Thomas regarding the rules and regulations of shiai and judging and explained by Sensei Ranga Rao and also a martial arts movie was screened.
The participants were very enthusiastic in learning the nuances of sport karate and the mock tournament conducted to give the participants a feel of taking part in a tournament.
On the final day, an impressive demonstration was given in honour of the Chief Guest Fr.Jerome, Rector of Don Bosco Idayadeepam and Guests of Honour Fr. Rafael, Fr. Arulanandam also of Don Bosco and Mr. Alex Jacob a renowned structural engineer from Chennai.
The camp was conducted by Shiandai Anand Mohan assisted by Sensei Bruce Robson, Sensei Manuel Thomas, Sensei Ranga Rao and Sensei Davis Thomas.
